St. Bride's completes huge renovation project

In 2014, Viridor Credits awarded £1m to the restoration of St. Bride's Church in East Kilbride; one of the 20th century's most celebrated ecclesiastical buildings.

Designed by Gillespie, Kidd and Coia, St. Bride's was built in the austere times of the 1950s, and this is reflected in the brutalist architecture.

The project, funded through Viridor Credits' Legacy:Scotland scheme, focused on the restoration of the light cannon that pipe sunlight into the interior of the church, as well as upper-level repairs to make the building weather-proof and to stop further deterioration.

The church was reopened at a special event on 8 October 2016.
